Preschool Program

Kindergarten Ready

Designed to get children ready to succeed in Kindergarten

Our Preschool Program is thoughtfully designed to support meaningful developmental growth, enhance communication skills, and foster independence as well as collaboration. Children are grouped in age-specific classrooms, allowing them to learn alongside peers at similar developmental stages. Each classroom builds upon the previous one, creating a cohesive learning journey that supports continued skill development.

Our teachers design activities and lesson plans tailored to the unique needs, interests, and developmental levels of the children in their classroom—ensuring personalized and meaningful learning experiences.

Building on the foundation laid in our Campers and Explorers Preschool Classrooms, the Backpackers Classroom emphasizes higher-level skill development in preparation for kindergarten. This stage focuses on problem-solving, responsive listening, expressive language, and collaborative social interactions. Children engage in targeted lessons that include:

  • Reading: Matching letters to sounds and recognizing familiar words

  • Writing: Using letters and symbols to express ideas

  • Math: Practicing simple addition and subtraction, sorting, and classifying

  • Social Skills: Learning to cooperate, take turns, and respect others

  • Physical Development: Mastering complex movements such as climbing and jumping rope

To support families, we provide regular updates, ongoing collections of your child’s work, and twice-yearly conferences to track progress along our School Readiness Pathway.

In Preschool, your child will participate in our Focus on Literacy! program, which builds upon foundational skills developed in earlier classrooms. Through a combination of in-school and at-home activities, this program strengthens early literacy and cognitive development in key areas:

  • Vocabulary Development: Using language purposefully and clearly in communication

  • Phonological Awareness: Recognizing and manipulating sounds, syllables, and rhymes

  • Phonemic Awareness: Identifying and working with individual sounds in spoken words

  • Print Awareness: Understanding the meaning and function of written language

  • Alphabet Knowledge: Recognizing letters as unique symbols with specific names, sounds, and sequence

We’re excited to support your child’s journey toward kindergarten readiness with this engaging and enriching program!
